Photo inside a Photo

Image
Edited: Original: ISO: 100 Shutter speed: 1/1400 f/4.5 How did you match the scene from the magazine to the scene you photographed? Did you control the light, composition, etc?  I matched a photo of a gazebo on the Foster City lagoon with the real location. I made sure that the building in the background and the pier matched up with the ones in my photo. I controlled the light in my image because of the sun's movement in my image. I also had to lower my ISO to 100 because the image was too dark.  What do you like best about this photo? The best thing about this photo was how the buildings matched up in the printed photo and the actual one. I also liked how I was able to make the photo more straight. I enjoyed visiting the areas of my city to create a pretty image. What would you do differently if you did it again?/What would make it better? Something I would do differently would be to make the pier match up a little bit better with the image, as well as ...

Still Life Portrait

Image
Edited:  Unedited:  ISO: 100; f/4.5, 1/13 sec • How do these objects represent you today? Be specific and use complete sentences. These objects represent me today because the volleyball, shoes, necklace, glasses, flowers, Stitch, and pineapple describes who I truly am. The volleyball and shoes are two things that are significant and very important to me. My life surrounds the sport of volleyball, so I felt that I needed to include these objects in the image. The necklace has a cross on the end, displaying my faith in God. I added my glasses because it helps me see the world in a new perspective. The flowers are in the image because I had that bouquet of fake flowers for many years, and they have been in my room for a long time. I put the Stich figure because it was my favorite childhood film and Disney character. Lastly, I added the pineapple as a nod to my backpack, and to the fact that it is my favorite fruit.   • What is the best aspect/what do you ...

Aperture: f/4 Shutter Speed: 1/20 ISO: 100 Aperture: f/16 Shutter Speed: 1/4 ISO: 100 Aperture: f/22 Shutter Speed: 1/4 ISO: 100 1. How does the aperture opening affect the amount of focus blur? The aperture opening affects the amount of focus because of the smaller the hole it provides a smaller amount of time the camera to focus.  2. What do you notice about the relationship between the f/stop number and the size of the aperture opening? I noticed that the relationship between f/stop and the size of the aperture is that the larger the aperture, the smaller the hole and the smaller the aperture, the larger the hole in the camera.

Hanging or Suspended Photo

Image
Edited: Unedited: What compositional element(s) did you choose? How did the compositional element(s) add to the meaning or purpose of the photograph? The compositional elements I choose was pattern and textures. I thought that the wooden post added different textures and tones to the image. In addition, I also used the rule of thirds elements for the viewer to focus on the leaf in the spiderweb. This creates the leaf to be the focal point of the image. Do you think you were successful in translating your thoughts into a visual form? What aspects of the photograph lead you to this conclusion? I think I was semi-successful in translating my thoughts in visual form. I found it hard to present my thoughts through an image like this. I think that I could have created the photo to be more metaphorical or contain more meaning. The aspects of the photo that lead to this conclusion were that there was no emotion or tone in this photo. I could have incorporated this ...

Through the Eyes of a Child

Image
EDITED UNEDITED What object did you choose to photograph and why?  The object I chose for my photograph were two airplanes held by my younger brother, Logan. I picked these toys because my brother has a love of aeronautics, and this photo was very fitting for the prompt. The planes my brother was holding also were passed down from my dad, so the toys hold special meaning to my family as well.  What compositional element(s) did you choose? How did the compositional element(s) add to the meaning or purpose of the photograph? The compositional element that I choose was worm's eye view. Different perspectives add meaning to the purpose of my photograph, because it looks like my brother is playing with the airplanes and holding them up into the sky. This could symbolize his desire to eventually be in flight in the sky.  Do you think you were successful in translating your thoughts into a visual form? What aspects of the photograph lead you to this ...

Shutter Exploration

ISO: 100, Aperture: 5.3, Shutter Speed 1/2000 ISO: 100, Aperture: 5.3, Shutter Speed 1/1000 ISO: 100, Aperture: 5.3, Shutter Speed 1/250 ISO: 100, Aperture: 5.3, Shutter Speed: 1/2 ISO: 100, Aperture: 5.3, Shutter Speed: 1 What I learned from Shutter Exploration: My results were interesting. The faster the shutter speed, the more clarity and definition I had in the photo. The lower shutter speed, such as 1, the more overexposed it was, as well as the amount of blur in the image increased. The longer the shutter is open, the camera catches more movement and action creating a blur. The image is brighter, because there is more time for the light to hit the sensor.

Black and White Landscape Photo

Image
What challenges did you encounter photographing and editing this image?  Some challenges that I encountered while photographing and editing this image was making sure that the image was not overexposed or underexposed. I also wanted to make sure that the image was not completely white, because of water and sky's brightness.  How did you overcome these challenges? I overcame these challenges by attempting to balance out the highlights and shadows in the image through Lightroom.  How did you add depth to your image? I added to depth to my image by making sure I had a foreground, middle ground, and background in my photo. The boat is the foreground, the water is the middle ground, and the levy is the background.  Do you like your image in black and white or color more? Why?  I like images in color more because it shows more life and excitement in a photo. Even though black and white images can sometimes show more meaning, I lik...

Meaningful Object Post

Image
Unedited: Edited:  1. For this project, I chose a mini figurine of Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. For my third birthday party, I had a Lilo and Stitch themed party, and this toy of Stitch was atop my cake. I was obsessed with Lilo and Stitch for majority of my life, and I felt like I related to the movie characters a lot.  2. The compositional elements that I chose was viewpoint, texture, cropping and rule of thirds. I used these three elements to give my photo more definition. Since the object was small, used viewpoint to show face to face perspective of Stitch. I used some water and the rocks in the background to add texture to the photo. I cropped a little bit of the white splotch in the bottom right hand corner, that wasn't filled with water. I also used rule of thirds to center my photo around the Stitch figurine.  3. I am not sure if I was translating my thoughts through this photo. It is clear that my special object is Stitch, but the love that I at...

Cyanotype Post

Image
Cyanotype Reflection 1. In this project, I learned about Anna Atkins and the process she used to create a cyanotype. 2. I chose a lightbulb, star stickers, lace, and leaves to create my cyanotypes. I picked these materials because I knew that the silhouette of them would turn out to be really cool.  3. Some of the objects did not appear on the cyanotype that I envisioned. Specifically the lightbulb, I didn't know that the shadow of it would appear on the photo. I also could have placed the lightbulb in a different location.  4. If I did this again, I would have added more star stickers to the cyanotype, as well as place the lightbulb in the center of the photo, rather than crooked. I would also have painted the chemicals on the paper more thoroughly, as many white edges appeared in the photos.
